Chemical peels are an effective way of improving the quality of skin by removing the superficially damaged layers of the outer skin, leaving the younger, undamaged layers exposed, with a stunning level of rejuvenation in the face experienced.
Chemical solution is usedincluding phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs).
AHAs are used for the light superficial peel while TCA is used for medium depth peeling and Phenol for deep peeling. Chemical peels can be used by themselves or in association with other facial procedures.
The duration of the procedure depends on the depth of the peel, with AHAs andTCA usually lasting 10 to 15 minutes, while Phenol generally takes one or two hours to perform over the whole face.
Recovery period for a light peel allows two weeks before returning to work, while deeper peels may require a longer period.
