Liposuction is the removal of unwanted fatty deposits from around the various areas of the male and female body, by process of suction through a tiny incision.
Occurring most often in the region of the tummy, thigh, buttocks, knees, lower legs and ankles of women, some of these areas of fat can prove notoriously difficult to remove by diet and exercise alone, with an otherwise slim individual feeling blighted by the presence of unsightly bulges.
Liposuction is a treatment available to both overweight people and those who have very localised areas of fat needing treatment, however it is generally recommended that the treatment is most successfully undertaken by individuals near to their ideal weight, who struggle to get rid of troublesome areas of fat through a healthy diet and exercise regime.
Fat cells are created and stabilise at a given number after the initial growth period of an individual’s adolescence. The increase in weight and volume of a person’s body, through excess fat, is in the over filling of these given numbers of fat cells.
Where liposuction is effective, is in the removal of a certain number of fat cells, which may have developed in excessive numbers, within certain areas, for example the tummy, and once removed are gone for the long term.
This does not, however, mean that the person is no longer capable of gaining weight, as the cells remaining are still subject to ‘over fattening’ if excessive levels are consumed and regular exercise is not taken.
Liposuction is carried out by a specialist who injects large volumes of a special weak anaesthetic solution into the area to be shaped. This softens the tissues, and allows the use of very fine tubes for suction through tiny incisions. Excess fat can then quite easily be removed, allowing a better, more even contour. If fat transfer is desired, the fat can be treated and carefully re-injected to augment the cheeks or lips for the rejuvenation of the face or the back of the hands or to correct skin or other defects with absolute safety.
Twilight sedation is generally administered during any Liposuction procedure, with general anaesthetic now deemed unnecessary, leaving the patient free to be in and out of the surgery in very little time at all, equipped with their new figure fully intact.
